Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly’s budget session is set to begin today, with the opposition BJD and Congress gearing up to corner the ruling party on various issues. The ruling party, on the other hand, is prepared to face the opposition’s onslaught.
As per reports, the session will be held in two phases – the first phase from February 17 to 24, and the second phase from March 9 to April 8. The Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, will address the House on the first day. The Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, will present the budget for 2026-27 on February 20. The general discussion on the budget will take place on February 23 and 24.
The opposition’s strategy and the Speaker’s ability to manage the House will be under scrutiny. With 29 working days scheduled, the session is expected to be intense, with the ruling and opposition parties clashing on various issues.
The opposition BJD and Congress have a long list of issues to grill the government on, including paddy procurement, mandi mismanagement, women’s safety, deteriorating law and order system, Polavaram and Mahanadi disputes among other issues.
The ruling party, on the other hand, is prepared to face the opposition’s attacks and has devised a strategy to counter their allegations.
