Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik will now contest the upcoming Assembly elections in the state from two constituencies. In addition to his traditional Hinjili Assembly seat, Naveen will now also contest the Kantabanji Assembly constituency in Bolangir district.
The Chief Minister had contested from two constituencies – Hinjili and Bijepur – in the 2019 Assembly elections too. Later, he gave up the Bijepur seat and Rita Sahu won the seat in the subsequent by-election.
Announcing the fifth list of the BJD’s candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said that following a meeting of the top leadership, the party decided on the names of nine candidates for the Assembly elections, swapping the constituencies of two candidates.
