Bhubaneswar: The seventh session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly will commence today and continue till October 3.
According to the schedule, the Monsoon Session will have nine business days, with one holiday and two ‘No Meeting Days’, and six bills likely to be tabled.
Ahead of the session, Speaker Surama Padhy chaired an all-party meeting here on Monday to ensure smooth conduct of proceedings, even as political temperatures rose with opposition parties preparing to corner the government over several issues.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Deputy Speaker Bhawani Shankar Bhoi, Opposition Deputy Leader Prasanna Acharya, Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, Congress Legislature Party Deputy Leader Ashok Das and other senior leaders from all parties attended the meeting.
This short-duration session is likely to be quite heated. The opposition parties have strategized to corner the government on issues ranging from the MMDR Amendment Bill to the correction of errors in textbooks.
Odisha’s Leader of Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, on Sunday, urged the Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to convene a special session of the state Assembly and pass a unanimous resolution seeking repeal of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, arguing that the amendment affects Odisha’s constitutional rights over taxation of mineral wealth.
