Bhubaneswar: Odisha has strengthened its position as a leading investment destination at India Chem 2026 held in Mumbai, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Friday.
The Chief Minister’s team returned to Bhubaneswar on Friday after attending the conclave organised by Odisha in the chemical and petrochemical sector on October 22 and 23.
Addressing media at the airport, Majhi said nine MoUs and four Investment Intents were signed in Mumbai during the two-day event, bringing total investment proposals worth Rs 53,893.51 crore to the state. The proposals are expected to create 20,210 employment opportunities.
He said 25 one-to-one meetings were held with business leaders, including representatives of POSCO India, JSW, L&T and companies from the US and European Union.
“Through these discussions, we understood their needs and the opportunities for investing in Odisha. There has been good understanding with various potential investors and they are very interested in investing in Odisha,” the Chief Minister said.
Majhi said he has discussed with the Central Government and FICCI to host the conclave in Odisha next year and both have given the green signal. “Odisha Chem-2027 will be held in October next year,” he announced.
Thanking Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers J P Nadda for his cooperation, Majhi said the conference will help diversify Odisha from a metal-based economy to a chemical-based economy.
“A complete industrial ecosystem will be created by setting up interdependent industries like metal, metal downstream, chemical, petrochemical and plastic in Odisha. This will make Odisha a strong pillar in achieving the goal of building a self-reliant India,” he said.
Fisheries and Livestock Development Minister Gokulananda Mallick, Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta, Chief Whip Saroj Pradhan and several MLAs were present at Bhubaneswar airport to welcome the Chief Minister.
