Bhubaneswar: A fresh low‑pressure system is expected to form over the southern Bay of Bengal around October 24‑25, adding to an already active weather pattern.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the existing well‑marked low‑pressure area over the southwest Bay is moving west‑northwestward and will intensify into a depression near the north Tamil Nadu‑south Andhra coast within the next 24 hours. It will continue west‑northwestward toward north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the regional weather centre has issued alerts for thunder‑showers, lightning and gusty winds along the Odisha coast and southern districts until October 25.
Going by the IMD prediction, a second low‑pressure area could emerge around October 26‑27, followed by a third around October 29‑30. While the initial system may have limited impact, meteorologists warn the second could be more severe.
On the other hand, some foreign weather agencies have projected cyclones for the second and third low‑pressure systems. A few models are also said to have predicted oceanic storms for the potential low, but the IMD has not clarified anything about it.
