Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet has approved a proposal to extend additional incentives over and above the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) of 2022 to attract anchor investors for the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. This move aims to transform Odisha into a regional hub for aviation services and marks a significant step towards strengthening civil aviation infrastructure in the state.
The decision is in line with the state’s vision under the Building and Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) scheme. The MRO facility, which will be the first major one in Eastern India, is expected to cater to both domestic and international carriers, leveraging Odisha’s strategic geographical location.
According to a NITI Aayog report, the global MRO market is expected to reach USD 117 billion by 2031, with India’s MRO industry projected to reach USD 4.0 billion by 2031. With India’s aviation sector poised for significant growth, the demand for MRO services is likely to rise exponentially.
The state cabinet has selected M/s Air Works India (Engineering) Pvt. Ltd., India’s oldest and largest third-party MRO provider, as the anchor investor to establish and operate the facility. The Commerce & Transport Department will oversee implementation, while the High Power Committee on Aviation will facilitate project rollout and monitoring.
