Bhubaneswar: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha, R.S. Gopalan, on Tuesday underscored the importance of countering misleading information related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the 2026 Electoral Rolls.
Chairing a virtual meeting with district Information and Public Relations Officers across the state, Gopalan outlined the objectives and significance of the SIR initiative and called for coordinated efforts to ensure clarity and transparency in the process.
“The Election Commission of India has earned global recognition for its impartial and dedicated functioning. To uphold that reputation, it is crucial to effectively counter false and misleading information,” Gopalan stated. He reiterated that no eligible voter’s name should be deleted from the rolls, nor should ineligible names be included.
Deputy CEO Lakshmiprasad Sahu presented key aspects of the revision process, citing examples from Bihar, and urged officials to promptly address and correct misinformation—such as false claims of mass deletions, duplicate entries, or errors by Booth Level Officers.
He also advised District I&PR Officers to actively disseminate verified information and regular press releases from the CEO’s office through social and digital platforms to raise awareness at the grassroots level.
Earlier, on September 26, CEO Gopalan had instructed all District Collectors and District Election Officers to ensure meticulous planning and timely execution of the SIR process to maintain transparency and accuracy across Odisha.
