Bhubaneswar: Recognizing the invaluable sacrifices of freedom fighters, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a significant increase in their monthly pensions at the All India Freedom Fighters Day Festival today.
As part of the revised scheme, the monthly pension for freedom fighters who were imprisoned during the freedom movement has been doubled from Rs10,000 to Rs 20,000. Those who participated in the freedom struggle but were not imprisoned will now receive Rs15,000 per month, up from Rs 9,000.
The state government has also raised the pension for beneficiaries under the national pension scheme for freedom fighters from Rs 8,000 to Rs10,000. Additionally, individuals arrested under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency will now be entitled to a monthly pension of Rs 20,000.
Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the government’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of Odisha’s freedom fighters, including those who laid down their lives for the nation’s independence. “Our government is dedicated to acknowledging their contributions and ensuring their legacy is preserved for future generations,” he said.
The initiative underscores the Odisha government’s resolve to recognize and support the state’s freedom fighters, who played a crucial role in the country’s struggle for independence.
