Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced a new scheme — Samrudha Anganwadi Yojana — aimed at completing all pending and incomplete Anganwadi centres across Odisha.
Presenting the Annual Budget 2026–27 in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Majhi said the initiative would focus on strengthening grassroots child development infrastructure by ensuring that every Anganwadi centre functions from a proper building.
Under the scheme, the State Government has fixed the construction cost at ₹15 lakh per centre in non-tribal areas and ₹20 lakh per centre in tribal areas, recognising the additional logistical and geographical challenges in tribal regions.
To roll out the ambitious programme, the Chief Minister proposed an outlay of ₹600 crore for the financial year 2026–27.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve the physical infrastructure of Anganwadi centres, which serve as the backbone of early childhood care, nutrition, and pre-school education services under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework.
Officials said the scheme aims not only to complete long-pending buildings but also to ensure uniform standards, better facilities for children and mothers, and enhanced service delivery at the grassroots level.
The Samrudha Anganwadi Yojana is being seen as part of the government’s broader push to strengthen rural and tribal welfare infrastructure in the state.
