Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik on Monday extended his condolences on the demise of immensely talented singer Pankaj Udhas who breathed new life into ghazals. Udhas was 72. Udhas captivated listeners for decades with his inimitable style. His death has, no doubt, has created a void in the ghazal industry.
After Udhas’ daughter Nayaab shared the news of the singer’s demise through Instagram, eminent personalities and music lovers swamped the comment section and posted their condolences.
Taking to tweeter, Patnaik wrote, “Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of renowned Ghazal singer #PankajUdhas. His soothing voice and emotive renditions touched the hearts of millions. Legacy of the legendary singer will continue to resonate with fans and music enthusiasts for time to come. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and friends.”
Notably, Nayaab confirmed Udhas’ death and shared a statement on Monday which read, “With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness.”
