Bhubaneswar: Brilliant and poor students belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories often face financial difficulties at the time of admission to government medical and engineering colleges in the state. Despite facing various challenges, these meritorious students from this category clear competitive examinations. However, they do not have the means to deposit the fees at the time of admission. Many such news items are regularly published in the mass media.
To solve this problem, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed that poor students belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories will not have to deposit any fees at the time of admission and for six months after admission. This decision of the Chief Minister has brought relief among the students of this category.
These students generally receive various scholarships from both the Central and State Governments. However, the process of receiving the scholarship amount takes 3-4 months to complete before the money is received. Therefore, now the students of this category will be able to conveniently deposit their admission and tuition fees after receiving their scholarship money.
In this regard, a guideline will be issued by the government very soon.
