Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, saying India’s growing global stature has transformed Australia’s stand on nuclear cooperation from a ‘firm no’ to a landmark partnership.
In a post on X, CM Majhi referred to Australia’s 2010 decision to rule out uranium sales to India and contrasted it with the current development of expanded nuclear energy cooperation between the two countries.
“The same Australia that ruled out uranium sales to India in 2010 is today opening a new chapter of nuclear energy cooperation with India. From a firm no to a landmark partnership, India’s growing global stature and the strength of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s leadership have made the impossible possible, proving once again that Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai”, read CM Majhi’s post.
Notably, Australia will begin to sell uranium to India for peaceful purposes after the two countries’ leaders signed an administrative deal Thursday, enacting an agreement on exports of the material that was held up for years over concerns about weapons use. Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the joint announcement after a meeting in Melbourne.
