Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday performed the groundbreaking ceremony for 12 industrial and infrastructure projects worth ₹28,084 crore, reinforcing the state’s vision of sustainable and inclusive development.

The projects, located across Gopalpur, Chatrapur, Buguda, and Barapalli in the Ganjam region, are expected to create employment opportunities for 15,455 people.

Speaking on the occasion, which coincided with World Environment Day, Majhi said the projects reflect the state government’s commitment to eco-friendly growth while ensuring upliftment of local communities through infrastructure, innovation, and opportunity creation.

He reiterated that Odisha, under the double-engine government, is aligning its development agenda with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by promoting investment in key sectors such as green energy, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, and tourism.

The Chief Minister highlighted that after the “Utkarsh Odisha–Make in Odisha” conclave held in January, projects worth ₹1.5 lakh crore have already been implemented within just five months, resulting in the generation of 90,000 jobs.

He also said that Gopalpur Port is emerging as a strategic industrial gateway that will accelerate the region’s economic transformation.

Among the major investments, Ocior Energy Private Limited has launched a ₹7,200-crore green hydrogen and ammonia project at Tata Steel SEZ in Gopalpur, creating 2,300 jobs.

HHP Five Private Limited is investing ₹4,000 crore in the same sector, generating an additional 1,595 jobs. Petronet LNG Limited has begun work on its proposed ₹6,500-crore LNG terminal, which is expected to strengthen regional energy infrastructure while providing 1,000 jobs. In the chemicals sector, UPL Limited is grounding a ₹4,000-crore specialty chemicals facility, projected to employ 4,100 people.

Green energy manufacturing is also seeing a major boost, with Saatvik Solar Industries Private Limited investing ₹3,500 crore to create 3,225 jobs and World Green Energy Private Limited putting in ₹2,500 crore for a unit that will generate 2,500 jobs.

Geo Impex and Logistics Private Limited is establishing a multi-modal logistics park in Chatrapur with an investment of ₹207 crore, expected to create 350 jobs. In the agro-processing sector, Tarangini Distilleries Private Limited is setting up a ₹149-crore bio-ethanol plant in Buguda that will offer 205 employment opportunities.

Other projects include Odisha Monolithic’s ₹4-crore refractory unit in Chatrapur, Crochet Industries Private Limited’s ₹18-crore eco-resort in Gopalpur, and small but significant units in e-waste and medical devices by JSR Greenex and Linox Ortho Surgical Private Limited in Barapalli with a combined investment of ₹5.5 crore and 50 jobs.

The state government has also kicked off two critical infrastructure initiatives to support long-term industrial growth — Tata Steel’s ₹200-crore Industrial Park and IDCO’s ₹229-crore utility corridor and estate development.

Tata Steel SEZ Limited’s Managing Director Manikanta Naik hailed the groundbreaking as a key milestone in the evolution of the Gopalpur Industrial Park, noting that the government’s support and policy environment have helped position the region as an emerging investment destination.
