Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Thursday started formally working from Lok Seva Bhawan, 22 days after taking oath as Chief Minister of Odisha.
According to sources, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) was functioning from the state guest house as renovation work of his office on the third floor of the Lok Seva Bhawan was underway. Though the Chief Minister had presided over the first cabinet meeting in Lok Seva Bhawan, he had not visited the chamber meant for the CM.
On Thursday, the CM bowed down on his knees before entering the Lok Seva Bhawan. Deputy CM K V Singh Deo, Cabinet Ministers, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and other senior officials welcomed the CM to the CMO office. Eight priests chanted hymns as he entered his chamber. He entered his chamber amid chanting of Vedic hymns by as many as eight priests.
On this occasion, CM took several important decisions regarding the promotion of ‘Odia Asmita’.
Talking to the media after assuming the charge, the CM said, “The state administration will be run in Odia, the language of the state. Therefore, all government work will be done in Odia. A commission will be formed to promote and spread the Odia language. The Odia Language Institute will be reconstituted. The use of Odia language will be widely used in government work, and if necessary, the Odisha Official Language Act will be amended.”
After officially assuming charge at Loka Seva Bhawan CM also said, “Apart from material development, emphasis will also be given to cultural development. Emphasis has been laid on the preservation and promotion of Odia identity. The government will take steps for the reconstitution of academies related to literature, art, music, and fine arts. Each district’s art and culture will be encouraged. An Academy of Translation, Odia Identity Bhavan, will be established. Modern, simple, and easy-to-use technology will be utilized for language education.”
“The government will consider appointing Odia language teachers at the higher secondary level. Similarly, the construction of the Paika Academy and Memorial will be expedited” maintained Majhi, adding that they are committed to developing various historical sites.
