Bhubaneswar: With an objective to promote hockey and spread awareness among students, colleges across the State, both government and private, will have special sessions to educate students about the importance and significance of the game.
The Higher Education Department has directed the principals of all government and colleges to hold a session once a week for the purpose. The department clarified that the session will be held on Monday in an open space on the campus.
In a letter to all college authorities, the Higher Education department stated that the role and importance of Hockey should be highlighted and imbibed by the present generation. The government has issued certain directives and asked educational institutions to follow them to highlight the history and significance of Hockey in student’s congregations.
“The students of the college may be congregated in open space where the golden and glorious history of Hockey is highlighted by reading out the message in English and Odia,” the letter read. The session will be held on every Monday. Students will be distributed chocolates or sweets and the expense will be met from the available contingency, the department clarified.
During the session, flexi banner highlighting the legacy of hockey would be installed at the key locations in the institutions. Photographs of the gathering with banners would be taken and the same would be sent to the Higher Education department. It may also be posted on social media for wider circulation, the department stated in the letter.
Notably, the Odisha government has decided to sponsor Men’s and Women’s Hockey World Cup in 2020 and 2023. The government has also sponsored both Men’s & Women’s Hockey National Team from 2018 to 2023.
