Bhubaneswar: Recognizing the need to adopt sustainable practices in infrastructure development, the Odisha government is exploring the use of Terrazyme, an innovative bio-enzymatic soil stabilizer, for constructing durable and eco-friendly roads.
A review meeting chaired by Law, Works, and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Tuesday focused on the potential benefits of Terrazyme in road construction. Officials discussed its cost-effectiveness, durability, and compatibility with the environment.
Derived from natural plant extracts, Terrazyme is a non-toxic and biodegradable liquid that strengthens soil and enhances its quality. Roads built with this technology are not only stronger and longer-lasting but also significantly cheaper compared to conventional roads constructed with stone, gravel, cement, and asphalt. In addition, Terrazyme reduces excessive heat, controls dust pollution, and helps cut down carbon emissions, making it particularly suitable for forested and biodiversity-rich regions.
Minister Harichandan directed officials of the Works Department and the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC) to prepare a detailed report on the feasibility of using Terrazyme, particularly in eco-sensitive areas, and submit it to the government for further consideration.
The meeting was attended by Banapur Block Chairman Amarendra Ranasingh, OBCC Consultant Jayakrishna Das, Additional Chief Engineer Sridhar Raut, and other senior officials.
