Bhubaneswar: The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has intensified its drive against black marketing of cooking gas in the state.
According to reports, enforcement teams conducted raids and inspections at 3838 places across Odisha. During these operations, a total of 8,457 gas cylinders were seized. The department has registered 47 FIRs and initiated 498 cases under the Essential Commodities (EC) Act. Nine persons have so far been arrested in connection with the illegal activities.
Officials stated that continuous enforcement is being carried out against those hoarding domestic LPG cylinders with the intention of selling them in the black market. Strict legal action will continue to protect the interests of genuine consumers and ensure fair distribution of subsidised cooking gas.
