Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s outstanding debt rose to Rs 1,22,893.67 crore in the financial year 2025-26 from Rs 96,310.42 crore in 2023-24, while the state’s per capita debt burden stood at approximately Rs 26,037.70 as of August 2026, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly on Monday.
In a written reply to a question by senior Congress leader and Jayapur MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Majhi said the state’s outstanding debt stood at Rs 96,310.42 crore at the end of the financial year 2023-24.
The debt burden increased to Rs 1,13,187.82 crore during 2024-25 and further rose to Rs 1,22,893.67 crore at the end of 2025-26, according to the reply.
The chief minister further informed the House that, as of the end of August 2026 in the current financial year 2026-27, Odisha’s per capita debt burden was approximately Rs 26,037.70.
The figures indicate that the state’s outstanding debt increased by about Rs 26,583 crore over the two-year period from the end of 2023-24 to the end of 2025-26.
