Kataka: A high-level review meeting with district Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Range IGs/DIGs was held through video conferencing at the State Police Headquarters on Tuesday morning under the chairmanship of DGP Vinaytosh Mishra.
During the meeting, the DGP conducted a detailed review of several important issues, including the student union elections scheduled to be held on October 15, law and order during the festive season, women’s safety, cybercrime, crime control and the ‘Nishamukta Odisha Abhiyan’.
Regarding the student union elections, the DGP said students are a sensitive community and directed the police to maintain regular and personal communication with them. He instructed inspectors-in-charge of police stations and SDPOs to hold meetings with student leaders and maintain coordination to ensure peaceful elections.
He directed the police to prevent outsiders and anti-social elements from entering college campuses, keep a close watch on hostels and messes, and maintain regular contact with students. The DGP also advised against unnecessary deployment of police personnel in areas where there was no possibility of violence. He further directed the police to keep a close watch on student gatherings, feasts and other events.
To ensure proper coordination during the elections, the DGP advised district Collectors, SPs, Sub-Collectors and college principals to hold coordination meetings. He also called for special vigilance after the declaration of election results, as there could be a possibility of violence during that period.
On cybercrime, the DGP directed officials to further strengthen the functioning of cyber police stations and make the investigation of cases and subsequent legal action more effective.
The DGP also directed the police to give the highest priority to women’s safety and ensure prompt, impartial and effective investigation of sensitive cases. Taking serious note of the recent criminal incident involving a young woman in Bhubaneswar, he directed officials to maintain strict vigil over women’s safety across the state and take strong legal action against the accused.
On crime control, the DGP stressed strict action against habitual and organised criminals. He also emphasised regular raids and checks against illegal activities, including effective enforcement of the NDPS Act.
He directed officials to further strengthen the ‘Nishamukta Odisha Abhiyan’ and take stringent action against drug trafficking and criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade. He also called for appropriate action to destroy illegal cannabis cultivation under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
The DGP also emphasised the effective implementation of the new criminal laws and the development of police infrastructure.

All Range IGs/DIGs and SPs from districts across the state also participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
