Bhubaneswar: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Sunday reviewed the law and order situation in the state and directed senior officers to intensify crime control measures, strengthen public safety mechanisms and improve police-public coordination.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the DGP Camp Office in Bhubaneswar, the DGP assessed key policing parameters including crime trends, investigation efficiency, and field-level responsiveness. He stressed the need for a more proactive and result-oriented policing approach across districts.

The DGP instructed Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Range IGs/DIGs to take firm and targeted action to control crime and enhance public confidence in the police system. He underlined the importance of visible policing and timely intervention in crime-prone areas.

Emphasising capacity building, Khurania directed that all personnel deployed in Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) undergo professional and practical training to improve their efficiency and response time during emergencies.

He also made it mandatory to conduct daily ‘Briefing Parades’ in all police stations before 9 am. The DGP said these briefings should be followed by structured discussions on law and order updates, criminal movement, sensitive areas and ongoing investigations to improve operational readiness.

On crime control measures, the DGP ordered speedy execution of Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs), strict action against habitual and notorious offenders under the National Security Act (NSA), and intensified crackdown on drug trafficking networks across the state.

He further directed increased beat patrolling within police station limits, enhanced highway surveillance and special drives to curb public nuisance and crime-related incidents. Senior officers were asked to closely monitor serious offences, including murder cases, to ensure swift arrest, thorough investigation and timely prosecution.

The DGP also asked police officials to launch public awareness initiatives highlighting the positive role, prompt action, and service-oriented work of the police within the next 15 days.

Senior officers including Director General of Police, CID-CB, Vinaytosh Mishra; Director of Intelligence R.P. Koche; and Additional DGP (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar attended the meeting.

Later in the day, DGP Khurania also reviewed the functioning of the Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack. The meeting discussed law and order management in urban areas, crime control measures, investigation of sensitive cases, public interaction, and traffic regulation.

Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datta Singh and Additional Commissioner of Police Narasingha Bhol were present at the review meeting.
