Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has released additional quantities of fortified rice for distribution among National Food Security Act (NFSA) and State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) beneficiaries to meet extra requirements during the festive and lean seasons.
In the first phase, 41,082.435 MT of fortified rice was allocated from the State Pool for 27,38,829 NFSA and SFSS households in 11 western and southern districts — Bolangir, Boudh, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Rayagada, and Sonepur. Beneficiaries received an additional 5 kg of rice per card per month free of cost for the months of September, October, and November 2025.
In the second phase, 1,05,711.270 MT of fortified rice was distributed to 70,47,418 families in the remaining 19 districts — Angul, Balasore, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, Sambalpur, and Sundergarh — at the rate of 5 kg per family per month for the same three months.
In the third phase, an additional 1,09,379.880 MT of fortified rice has been released for 27,34,497 families living in 121 Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) Blocks under 14 ITDA districts. These families will receive 10 kg of rice per family per month free of cost for four months from December 2025 to March 2026.
The entire expenditure for this additional fortified rice has been borne by the State Government from its own budget, reflecting its commitment towards food and nutritional security of the vulnerable sections.
