Bhubaneswar: Condolences poured in from Odisha’s top political leaders on Thursday following the demise of veteran actor Padma Shri Nana Patekar, who passed away at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep grief, calling his death a great loss to Indian cinema.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said he was deeply saddened by the passing of the legendary actor.
In a post on X, he wrote: “Deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor Padma Shri Nana Patekar. A towering figure of Indian cinema, his unforgettable performances in Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar, Ab Tak Chhappan, and the Marathi masterpiece Natsamrat will forever remain etched in our hearts. His artistry was matched only by his compassion, as seen through his tireless work for farmers via the Naam Foundation. India has lost a true icon whose voice and presence defined an era.”
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida also mourned the veteran actor.
In a post on X, she said she was deeply saddened to hear about the demise of the veteran actor and that through his extraordinary acting talent he had left a distinct identity in Indian cinema. She prayed for the eternal peace of his soul and expressed condolences to the bereaved family and his countless fans.
Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik also expressed grief over the actor’s passing.
“Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of veteran actor #NanaPatekar. His distinctive dialogue delivery and ability to essay complex characters with ease has earned him a special place in Indian cinema. My condolences to the bereaved family members, friends and fans. Om Shanti,” Patnaik posted on X.
It is pertinent to mention that the 75-year-old actor, known for his intense performances in films like Parinda, Krantiveer and Natsamrat, was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula, Goa in the early hours of Thursday and was declared dead at 5:20 am at Manipal Hospital after 45 minutes of CPR failed to revive him.
