Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has assured that the state has adequate stocks of fertilisers to meet the requirements of farmers during the ongoing Kharif 2025 season.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, the state had drawn up a Kharif crop plan covering 58.50 lakh hectares, for which 10 lakh MT of fertilisers were sought from the Centre. Against this, the Government of India allocated 9.55 lakh MT of different grades of fertilisers for the season.
By September 7, the state had already received 8.56 lakh MT, adding to the pre-positioned stock of 2.94 lakh MT, making total availability 11.50 lakh MT. Of this, 9.42 lakh MT has been sold to farmers, leaving 2.04 lakh MT in stock across districts. Additional consignments—including 19,470 MT of urea and 2,734 MT of MOP—are currently in transit.
Officials said the government is closely coordinating with manufacturers, MARKFED, and cooperative societies to ensure smooth distribution of fertilisers to PACS, LAMPCS, and retail dealers. Notably, fertiliser sales this season have already surpassed last year’s figures, when 8.02 lakh MT had been sold during the same period.
To prevent black marketing, hoarding, and sale of spurious fertilisers, enforcement squads comprising officials from agriculture, revenue, and police departments have intensified inspections across the state. So far, 5,298 retail points have been checked, with 1,479 retailers served show-cause notices, 33 issued stop-sale orders, and 77 dealer licences suspended or cancelled for violations. Stocks were also seized from nine dealers.
The government reiterated that farmers are free to choose fertiliser grades, with IFFCO instructed not to tag nano fertilisers to other supplies. “We are ensuring timely availability of quality fertilisers at the right price,” a senior official stated.
