Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Excise Department intensified its crackdown on illicit liquor and narcotics with comprehensive raids conducted across the state on September 13. The enforcement drive led to the detection of 223 cases, including four violations under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During the operation, authorities arrested 80 persons, while 78 others were released under Section 35 of the BNSS Act.
According to an official press release,, the department seized a substantial quantity of illegal substances, including 11,442 bulk liters (BL) of illicitly distilled (ID) liquor, 17 BL of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), 99 BL of beer, 115 BL of country spirit, 259 BL of Odisha State (OS) liquor, and 124,030 BL of fermented wash. Additionally, 13,950 kilograms of gur wash, 33 litres of duplicate foreign liquor, 40 kilograms of ganja, 711 kilograms of mohua flower, and 80 kilograms of brown sugar were confiscated.
Enforcement teams also impounded 42 vehicles suspected to be involved in the illegal trade. The total value of the seized contraband on the day was estimated at Rs 1,15,36,517, bringing the cumulative value of seizures since September 1 to Rs 18,03,74,970.
The Excise Department reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating illicit liquor and narcotics, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding public health and maintaining strict law enforcement throughout Odisha.
