Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today approved a proposal for the amendment of the Odisha Public Distribution System (Control) Order, 2016, extending the deadline for replacing private fair price shop dealers with institutional ones to March 31, 2026.
The Cabinet decision aims to prevent disruptions in the public distribution system and address administrative inconveniences.
The public distribution system is being managed by 11,931 numbers of Fair Price Shops. Out of which 5292 are Private Dealers, 4028 FPS are run by Gram Panchayats, 2161 are run by Women Self Help Groups, 162 are run by Self Help Groups, 246 are run by Cooperatives and 42 are run by other organizations.
The National Food Security Act, 2013 in the state has come into effect since last November, 2015. The Odisha Public Distribution System (Control) Order, 2016 was issued in the month of March 2016, for the better management of the public distribution system. All the procedures related to public distribution system in the state are implemented as per the Odisha Public Distribution System (Control) Act, 2016.
