Bhubaneswar: According to data from the National Statistical Office (NSO), the average monthly income of agricultural households in Odisha stands at Rs 5,112, informed Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo in the state Assembly on Wednesday.
Singh Deo’s reply came in response to a question raised by Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati.
Bahinipati in his question asked the Deputy Chief Minister to state the annual income per head of agricultural households in the state. The Minister was also asked to provide the amount of minimum support price (MSP) provided by the state government per quintal of paddy. Additionally, he was requested to disclose the cost incurred by farmers to produce one quintal of paddy. Lastly, he was asked to provide the cost of paddy production per quintal in non-irrigated and irrigated land.
Replying to the Congress MLA’s queries, Deputy CM said, “For the 2024-25 year, the minimum support price (MSP) for common paddy has been fixed at Rs 2,300 per quintal. The state government provides additional support to farmers, taking the total support to Rs 3,100 per quintal.”
According to the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), the cost of production for paddy in Odisha stands at Rs 2,067 per quintal.
