Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Saturday initiated preparations for the nationwide “National Pledge Against Drug Abuse” programme, scheduled to be observed on August 18, 2026, as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA).
The Skill Development and Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha, has directed all concerned institutions under its jurisdiction to ensure active participation in the national campaign, which aims to create awareness among citizens about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.
According to an official communication issued by the department, the programme is being organised by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, with the objective of mobilising more than 10–12 crore citizens across the country to take a collective pledge against drug abuse and strengthen the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
The department has instructed all Directors, Registrars, Vice-Chancellors, Principals, and heads of various technical education and skill development institutions in Odisha to take necessary steps for the successful implementation of the programme. The institutions have been advised to encourage maximum participation of students, staff members, and other stakeholders in the pledge-taking activity.
The pledge programme will also include online participation and the generation of certificates as per the prescribed schedule. The initiative aims to spread awareness among the youth, who are considered the key strength of the nation, about the dangers of substance abuse and encourage them to lead healthy and productive lives.
The Government has accorded top priority to the campaign and appealed to all educational institutions and citizens to actively participate in making Odisha and the nation free from the menace of drug abuse.
