Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government ordered an inquiry into Chikiti hooch tragedy thaqt claimed five lives in August. The Member of Board of Revenue will investigate and submit a report within two months, a notification issued by the Excise Department said.
The investigation will focus on causes of the Tragedy i.e identifying the factors that led to the consumption of illicit liquor and the resulting deaths, identifying the individuals or groups accountable for the tragedy.
The probe team will also examine failures or negligence by excise and police officials.
The team has been asked to recommend actions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Notably, at least five people lost their lives and several others were hospitalized after consuming illicit country liquor in the Chikiti Police Station area of Ganjam district from August 19 to 21.
