Bhubaneswar: Marking World Environment Day, Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and First Lady Jayashree Kambhampati planted saplings at Atal Bana within the Lok Bhavan premises in Bhubaneswar on Friday and called upon citizens to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts.

Senior officials and employees of Lok Bhavan also took part in the plantation programme and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the environment.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said environmental protection is a collective responsibility and stressed that every individual should contribute towards safeguarding nature by planting trees. He noted that World Environment Day offers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the Earth and the need to preserve its natural resources.

“Protecting the environment is the duty of all. By planting saplings, we can take a small but meaningful step towards its protection,” the Governor said.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, he appealed to every citizen to plant at least one sapling and make environmental stewardship a part of daily life.

The Governor further advocated the slogan “Each One, Plant One,” urging people to adopt it as a guiding principle for environmental conservation.

Highlighting the ecological significance of trees, he said they play a vital role in purifying the air, conserving biodiversity and mitigating the effects of climate change. He emphasized that even small efforts by individuals and communities can create a significant impact in preserving the environment.

Calling upon the younger generation to take a leadership role in conservation efforts, the Governor urged youth to contribute actively towards building a clean, green and sustainable future.
