Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has issued a directive authorising all government departments to procure Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance administrative efficiency and skill upgradation among officers and staff.
The order, issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department (GA&PG) Additional Chief Secretary Surendra Kumar, underscores the state government’s commitment to administrative reforms and the adoption of cutting-edge technology in governance. Recognising the transformative potential of AI, the directive encourages departments to integrate AI tools into their daily operations, aiming to streamline workflows and improve data-driven decision-making.
“Accordingly, all departments are hereby authorised to procure one AI tool, which will be the basic version—a level above the free version—to support efficient functioning and capacity building of officers and staff,” the order stated.
However, the government has issued a strict caution regarding data security, emphasising that no confidential or secret documents should be uploaded onto external AI platforms to safeguard sensitive information.
“While utilising these AI tools, it is reiterated that no secret or confidential documents/materials shall be uploaded on any external platform,” the order further stated.
This initiative marks a crucial step in the state’s ongoing efforts to modernise governance and leverage technology for better public service delivery.
