The approval was communicated through a letter issued by Swarupananda Sahu, Officer on Special Duty in the Sports & Youth Services Department, addressed to the Collector and District Magistrate of Puri.
The department has requested the district administration to identify at least two acres of encroachment-free government land, preferably near the District Sports Complex, for the proposed academy.
“In inviting a kind reference to the subject cited above, I am directed to intimate that the Government in Sports & Youth Services have been pleased to accord in principle approval to the proposal towards “Establishment/ development of a Wrestling and Boxing Academy at Puri”,” the letter read.
The Officer on Special Duty emphasised that the location of the land should ensure smooth functioning and accessibility for both athletes and staff.
“It is further impressed, that the identified land parcel may be preferably located near the District Sports Complex, Puri or within the premises for ensuring proper functionality of the Academy,” the letter added.
