Odisha Govt Borrowed Over Rs 21K Cr In Last 9 Months: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has borrowed a total of Rs 21,177.99 crore from various sources over the last nine months (June 2024 to February 2025).

This was informed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the state assembly on Monday.

In a written statement, CM Majhi mentioned that the borrowing consists of Rs 7,149.56 crore from the central government, Rs 9,000 crore from the open market, Rs 2,261.16 crore from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Rs 2,750 crore from the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC), and Rs 2,370 crore from the State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA).

Additionally, the net Provident Fund deduction totaled Rs 2,352.73 crore, according to the Chief Minister’s statement in response to a question from Bhograi BJD MLA Goutam Buddha Das.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the funds borrowed are being fully utilized for capital investments and key development projects, including irrigation, energy, roads, disaster management, and urban infrastructure. During the same period, the government repaid Rs 14,970.97 crore.
