Bhubaneswar: The Commerce and Transport Department has constituted a committee to examine and recommend modalities for withdrawing cases related to pending e-challans in different courts. The committee will be chaired by the Principal Secretary of the Law Department.
The decision comes after it was noticed that a large number of e-challans sent to courts have not been disposed of within the stipulated period, and in most cases, cognisance has not been taken by the courts. The committee’s objective is to review the pending cases as of July 31, 2025, and suggest ways to resolve them.
The committee will consist of representatives from various departments, including the Law Department, Transport Department, Home Department, and Commerce & Transport Department.
The Principal Secretary, Law Department, will chair the committee, while other members will include the Transport Commissioner, Additional Secretary (Judicial) of the Law Department, and representatives from the Commerce & Transport Department and Home Department.
The committee’s recommendations will help the government to withdraw pending cases and streamline the process of disposing of e-challans. This move is expected to reduce the burden on the courts and improve the efficiency of the traffic enforcement system in Odisha.
