Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has provided Rs 154.27 crore in subsidies to electric vehicle (EV) owners since the 2022-23 fiscal year, marking a significant push towards green mobility, Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena stated in a written statement in the State Assembly on Thursday.
The state has witnessed a steady rise in EV sales since it began offering subsidies on September 1, 2021. This increased to Rs 57.21 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal year, supporting 36,518 registered vehicles.
For the ongoing fiscal year 2024-25, the state government has already distributed subsidies for 38,766 EVs as of August 2024, underscoring a growing demand for electric mobility in Odisha.
Under the current policy, the Odisha government provides a maximum subsidy of Rs 20,000 per two-wheeler, calculated at Rs 5,000 per kilowatt-hour of battery capacity. Additionally, a subsidy of Rs 30,000 is available for electric three-wheelers.
This substantial financial support demonstrates Odisha’s commitment to promoting eco-friendly transportation while reducing carbon emissions in the state.
