Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack on Tuesday sentenced a former Medical Officer of Madhuban Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jajpur district who is presently serving as a Medical Officer in District Headquarters Hospital, Bhadrak Dr Karunakar Rout to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 2 years and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 after convicting him in a bribery case, said an official press release.
The Court further ruled that on default of payment of fine Dr Rout shall have to undergo further RI for a period of six months more for the offence under section 13(2)/7 of the PC Act of 1988, the release added.
Dr Rout was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, for demanding and accepting bribe from a contractual health worker for not taking action against him for his absence in duty during MDA supervision by State team.
According to the release, Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Dr Rout from service following his conviction.
