Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced that the historic Bhadrak Kali Puja will be celebrated over nine days this year (from October 21 to 29) extending the traditional week-long festivities. The decision was made to enhance the cultural grandeur of the event and ensure broader participation.
Addressing the media, Minister Suraj said that the state government is committed to ensuring safety, cultural integrity, and smooth conduct of the celebrations.
“We are taking steps to provide a safe and well-organised environment while preserving the cultural heritage of the festival,” he stated.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the minister confirmed that a meeting with the Bhadrak Kali Puja Committee was held to finalise the arrangements. This year, the festivities are expected to be more grand and spiritually uplifting, culminating with the Bhasani Utsav (immersion ceremony) on October 29.
As part of the preparations, the Culture Department will provide financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to each Puja Mandap. Cultural troupes will also be engaged to enhance the festive atmosphere.
In a move aimed at inclusivity, virtual darshan facilities are being arranged at a designated location in Bhadrak to allow differently-abled persons to participate in the celebrations.
The meeting was attended by Bhadrak MLA Sitansu Sekhar Mohapatra, District Collector Dilip Routrai, Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Rout, and representatives of Bhadrak MP Avimanyu Sethi, among others.
