Bhubaneswar: In a bid to empower girl students and ensure their safety, the state government is hosting the Rani Laxmibai Atma Raksha Prashikshan (Self-Defence Training) program for girls studying in government schools.
The initiative which targets upper primary and secondary students, aims to build self-confidence and equip them to handle any untoward situations they may encounter in real life.
The program was announced by the School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond in the state assembly on Friday.
In response to a question from Simulia MLA Padmalochan Panda, the Minister explained that the program is not only designed to enhance self-defence skills but also to foster healthy habits, reduce anxiety and stress and cultivate a positive mindset among girls.
Minister Gond further highlighted the benefits of the program, noting that the self-defence training helps students become physically, mentally, and emotionally strong and stable, empowering them to face challenges in real life.
To facilitate the training, an allocation of Rs. 15,000 per school has been made, as per the Annual Work Plan & Budget (AWP&B) approval.
