Bhubaneswar: The state government has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for police conduct with Army personnel at police stations, informed Advocate General Pitambar Acharya to the Orissa High Court on Tuesday.
The recent decision stems from the alleged assault incident involving an Army officer and his fiancée at Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar last September. This disturbing event sparked widespread outrage, prompting the government to release SOP on police behaviour with Army personnel at police stations across the state.
According to the SOP, CCTV cameras will be installed at all police stations across the state by the end of March 2025. Besides, the AG also informed the court about the status of the cases involving an Army officer.
Last month, the court had expressed dissatisfaction over non-functional CCTV systems at 13 police stations.
Advocate General Pitambar Acharya assured the court that investigations into the Bharatpur police station incident are ongoing.
The next hearing has been scheduled for November 19.
