Bhubaneswar: The Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Department is set to roll out a comprehensive City Gas Distribution (CGD) Policy, aiming to enhance access to clean energy and promote sustainable urban development.
A high-level meeting, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Usha Padhee, discussed the strategic expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) across Odisha, focusing on a citizen-centric policy framework.
The proposed policy will streamline permissions, rationalise licence fees, and introduce single-window clearance systems, making it easier to implement city gas infrastructure projects. The initiative, in collaboration with GAIL and IOCL, aims to leverage technical expertise and ensure efficient execution.
The CGD policy is expected to facilitate faster PNG rollout, strengthen stakeholder coordination, and position Odisha as a leader in clean energy adoption.
Among others, Arindam Dakua, Director, Municipal Administration; Kirandeep Kaur Sahota, Commissioner, CMC; senior representatives from IOCL and GAIL; along with officers from IDCO and the Housing & Urban Development Department, including Shri Nihar Ranjan Behera, CGM, IDCO; Shri Ratnakar Sahu, Additional Commissioner, BMC; and Shri Suvendu Kumar Sahoo, Additional Secretary, H&UD, were present at the meeting held in the 3rd Floor Conference Hall of Kharabela Bhawan.
The collective inputs and expertise shared during the session are expected to shape a comprehensive, implementable, and forward-looking policy, aligned with Odisha’s vision for a greener, more efficient, and future-ready urban landscape.
