Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday nabbed Subrat Kumar Kanungo, Senior Revenue Assistant in the office of the DIPRO having additional charge of the office of DWO, Jajpur while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
According to an official statement, accused Kanungo had demanded Rs 25,000 bribe from the complainant, a victim under SC/ST Atrocity Act for facilitating release of compensation amount in her favour.
Against the total demanded bribe accused Kanungo had earlier taken Rs 15,000 from the victim in lieu of release of Rs 75,000 compensation and had demanded Rs 10,000 more for release of the balance compensation amount.
Today while receiving the rest bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the victim he was apprehended by Vigilance officials. The entire bribe money was recovered from Kanungo and seized, the statement added.
Following the trap, Vigilance has launched simultaneous searches at two locations of accused Kanungo from disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
The anti-graft agency has registered a case against Kanungo at Cuttack Vigilance police station under section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act 2018.
Investigation against accused Kanungo is under progress, the statement further said.
