Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has relaxed the time for payment of arrear electricity bills by lift irrigation consumers.

According to an official press release, Barchana MLA Amar Nayak, Bhubaneswar Ekamra MLA Babu Singh and Bijay Dal Behera on Wednesday met Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo at his chamber in the Vidhan Sabha and proposed extending the time limit for payment of arrear electricity bills of lift irrigation consumers in the current Kharif season in the interest of the farmers.

Singh Deo spoke to the Director of the Agriculture Department and power distribution companies (Discoms) in this regard.

Now, all lift irrigation consumers have been advised to pay their current electricity bills every month. Discoms have agreed to allow payment of arrear electricity bills through instalments. Lift Irrigation consumers can pay their arrear electricity between August 2024 and March 2025 in a maximum of eight instalments.

Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo said that the main objective of this step is to ensure that electricity supply remains uninterrupted along with providing financial flexibility to consumers.

For more details, consumers have been requested to contact Discom’s toll-free number 1912 or its customer care centre.
