Bhubaneswar: After two years, the provisions of the Disaster Management Act for Covid containment measures were revoked by the State Government. The State Government on March 13, 2020, notified enforcement of the DM Act, 2005 for Covid containment.
On March 22 this year, the Centre communicated that there may not be any further need to invoke the provisions of DM Act for COVID containment measures. However, use of mask and hand hygiene will continue, the Health Ministry stated.
The decision was taken after considering the overall improvement in COVID situation and preparedness of the Government to deal with the pandemic.
“Wherever any surge in the number of cases is observed, the Health and Family Welfare Department may take prompt and proactive action as advised by the Health Ministry from time to time,” an order issued by the Special Relief Commissioner’s office read.
