Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to preserve the linguistic and cultural identity of Odisha, the State Government has issued a gazette notification standardising the English spellings of various administrative units across the state.

The notification, published on June 22, 2026 by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, directs that the English spellings of Districts, Sub-Divisions, Tahasils, Blocks, and Urban Local Bodies be corrected and brought in conformity with Odia phonetics. The revised spellings will come into official effect from the date of publication of the notification.
