Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has notified amendments to the Odisha Public Distribution System (Control) Order, 2016, and the Odisha State Food Security (Targeted Public Distribution System) Rules, 2020, to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the Public Distribution System (PDS).
These changes aim to address long-standing issues such as inaccurate household identification, leakages, and diversion of subsidized food grains.
Key amendments include:
– Periodic e-KYC Verification: To ensure accurate beneficiary identification
– Ration Card for Minors: Simplifying access to food security for minors
– Handling Inactive and Duplicate Ration Cards: Reducing fraudulent activities
These measures align with the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, and are expected to improve food security, reduce waste, and ensure benefits reach genuine needy sections.
