Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Tuesday suspended Fire Services & Home Guards DIG Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao on disciplinary grounds.

IPS Uttamrao has been accused of misusing his power and violating service conduct rules. The allegations surfaced on Saturday night, prompting the Odisha government to launch an investigation into the matter.

Immediately upon his return to Bhubaneswar on Monday evening, after attending the NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi, the Chief Minister was briefed about the matter. Expressing dismay over it, the Chief Minister directed departmental officers to take necessary action which led to the suspension of Uttamrao.

“A disciplinary proceeding against Shri Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao, IPS is contemplated on the grounds of grave misconduct as a Member of the Indian Police Service. Now, therefore, the Government of Odisha, in the exercise of powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of Rule 3 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, hereby places the said Shri Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao, IPS under suspension with immediate effect,” read the official notification.

Going by the notification, DIG Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao will be stationed at the State Police Headquarters during his suspension.

He has been instructed not to leave the headquarters without obtaining prior permission from the Director General of Police, Odisha.

It is learnt from sources that Uttamrao had allegedly used his position to make unwanted advances towards the female inspector, which led to his suspension.
