Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to constitute Anganwadi Management Committees (AMCs) for all Anganwadi Centres in the state under the Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 scheme to strengthen community participation and monitoring at the grassroots level.
In a letter dated July 13, the Department of Women & Child Development directed all Collectors-cum-District Magistrates to set up the AMCs. The move follows guidelines issued by the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India.
According to the notification, the AMCs have been envisioned as a community-based institutional mechanism to ensure ownership, accountability, transparency and effective monitoring of Anganwadi services.
The concerned Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) will constitute the committee for each Anganwadi Centre in accordance with the composition and roles prescribed by the Centre. In addition to the members mentioned in the central guidelines, the state has decided to include two more members to broaden community representation. These include one adolescent girl from the local community pursuing Higher Secondary (+2) or College education, and one beneficiary of the Subhadra Scheme who is not a Self Help Group member.
As per the initial composition shared by the department, the Supervisor associated with the AWC will serve as the Chairperson of the AMC.
