Bhubaneswar: Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari today announced that the state government will provide immediate compensation to people whose houses or agricultural land have been damaged due to incessant rainfall.

He said that even if a single house or a single farm plot in a block has been affected, compensation will be given by the government.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Pujari said several districts have received heavy rainfall in the past week. Farmlands in Balangir, Cuttack and coastal districts have been hit the hardest. People from vulnerable areas have been shifted to shelter homes and provided food. Collectors of all districts that have received significant rainfall have been asked to submit damage assessment reports. The government will review the reports once they are received.

He further informed that reports have already been received from Bargarh, Balangir and Cuttack districts. The Collectors have been instructed to compile details of the affected people along with their bank account information. The compensation will be disbursed directly to the beneficiaries’ accounts through online transfer.

The Minister further clarified that compensation will also be provided if crops are damaged at the very beginning of the cultivation season.
