Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains have caused extensive damage in many districts of the state with houses destroyed at several places. In this situation, the state government has given a big assurance to the affected people.
Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik has informed that those whose houses have been destroyed due to rain will be provided with new houses immediately under government scheme.
According to the minister, due to heavy rains in the last four days, about 45 to 50 houses have been completely or partially destroyed in four districts.
The number is expected to increase further if rain continues. The affected families will be provided new houses under Antyodaya Gruha Yojana. The administration has been directed to make final assessment of all damage within five days as soon as rains subside.
People of six panchayats have been affected due to rise in water level in Indravati river. Arrangements have been made for them to stay in temporary shelters and food and dry rations are being distributed. However, the water level of Indravati is gradually decreasing, the minister said.
