Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is gearing up to unveil a revamped excise policy within the next 15 to 20 days, aimed at bolstering the regulatory framework of the sector.
Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced on Monday that the policy, now in its final stages of preparation, is being fast-tracked for release following approval from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
To ensure continuity in the excise sector, the minister revealed that the current policy has been extended for an additional month, remaining effective until the end of April. This interim measure will provide a seamless transition as the state prepares to implement the new guidelines.
Harichandan emphasized that the forthcoming policy, currently in its conclusive phase of drafting, will introduce significant changes designed to enhance oversight and address pressing concerns within the excise domain. The revisions are part of a broader push to modernize the sector, striking a balance between economic benefits and social responsibilities.
The updated excise policy is expected to prioritize transparency and operational efficiency, aligning with the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline regulations. With its approval pending from the Chief Minister, the new framework promises to reshape the state’s approach to excise management in the coming months.
