Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has approved the creation of 840 new posts across various categories for 56 new courts at the Civil Judge (Junior Division)-cum-Judicial Magistrate First Class level.
The new posts will include civil judges, head clerks, bench clerks, stenographers, junior clerks, typists, copyists, process servers, peons, house orderlies, sweepers, and night watchmen, among others.
According to sources, the Law Department has formally communicated the creation of these new posts to the Accountant General, ensuring a smooth implementation of the process.
The recruitment and appointment to the newly created posts will be conducted in strict accordance with the respective rules and provisions under the Odisha Revenue and Valuation (ORV) Act. The funding for these positions will be allocated from the state’s budget for the financial year 2025-26.
As per the decision, 13 districts will get new civil courts, with Mayurbhanj district getting the maximum of 13 courts. Currently, Odisha has a total of 700 courts, including civil and criminal courts. Despite this, over 1.5 million cases are pending in the state, with over 1.2 million being criminal cases. The Odisha High Court alone has around 189,000 pending cases.
